SSR holds annual conference on youth mental health
March 20, 2024
This year's SSR conference, titled “Youth Mental Health Landscape: Upstream Prevention and Downstream Intervention”, was attended by over 800 participants in-person and online, and representing more than 100 organisations.
Our Guest-of-Honour, Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Health, delivered the keynote address. SSR’s Director, Associate Professor Eddie Tong, said in his welcome remarks that research should examine youths’ developmental processes and study both the person and broader factors – including the family, peers, community, and societal forces. Meanwhile, Emeritus Professor Dr S Vasoo’s introduction speech focused on how key players in mental healthcare can further collaborate to move towards earlier interventions for youths in Singapore.
The conference touched on more inclusive strategies and served as a platform for meaningful discussions among social service practitioners, researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and more.
