Alumni Job Sharing Session – Public Sector
16 February (Thursday),
5 – 6.15 pm,
where our alumni currently working in the public sector will share their experiences.
Our alumni are Mr. Ng Jia Le from Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS), Mr. Lee Shing Shyan from Ministry of Education (MOE), Ms. Joey Guo and Mr. Chris Zhou from Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

The guest speakers will be addressing the following questions at the session:
1.     How did you get your job? What could be the reasons you were hired?
2.     Which modules/activities that you took/participated at NUS that were useful and relevant in helping you secure the job?
3.     What is your job designation? What is your job scope? Which department are you in, and what segment of the market are you serving/ supporting?
4.     What do you do on a normal workday? Explain your job tasks.
5.     Who do you interact with in the organization, and why?
6.     Why and how do you interact with clients or external parties (if applicable)?
7.     What are the challenges faced so far, as an early/mid-career employee? How do you overcome these?
8.     What is your projected career path? What do you need to do to move to the next level?
9.     What do you think are important qualities and skill-set needed to succeed in this job and other aspects of life in the public sector?
10. Â Â Highlight some tips for the undergraduates on getting a job relevant to your industry.
Here are their short bios.
Mr. Ng Jia Le is an Assistant Director in the Business & Economics Division of the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS). In his role, he provides economic inputs and analysis to competition and consumer cases, working closely with the Legal, Enforcement and Consumer Protection Divisions to ensure the process of detection, investigation, decision and enforcement of decision is fair, thorough, robust and timely. In addition, he advocates fair and competitive business practices to professional bodies and business communities. Jia Le joined CCCS in 2016 shortly after graduating with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) from the National University of Singapore, majoring in Economics. Jia Le also has a Postgraduate Diploma (Merit) in EU Competition law from King’s College London.

Mr. Lee Shing Shyan is an Economics Teacher at Anglo-Chinese Junior College. He majored in economics and developed a deep appreciation for labour and development economics at NUS. Joining the teaching profession has allowed him to align his academic interest to a cause he holds dearly to - investing in our students - Singapore’s human capital. He believes that teaching invests in students both as a means for further progress as a nation, and as an end, where stories, experiences and lives are valued.

Ms. Joey Guo is an Executive Planner working at URA Design & Planning Lab’s Geospatial Team, which drives geospatial analytics & enables smart planning with technology and digital tools. As a member of the Geospatial Team, she leads efforts to engage partner agencies and colleagues, and translate business use cases into strategies, data analytics and digital solutions. Joey graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Arts and Social Science, with Honours (Distinction) in Economics.

Mr. Chris Zhou is an Executive Property Market Analyst working at URA’s Property Research Department (PyR), which conducts market surveillance, as well as research studies, such as demand projections, to support policy decisions, and ensure a transparent, stable and sustainable property market in Singapore.
