AAG Conference Award
- Ms Shona Loong
Ms Shona Loong won the Student Paper Award - MA, "Slow Violence at the Borderlands: The Uncertain Future of Migrant Schools Along the Thai-Myanmar Border". - Second Prize for Student Paper Competition, AAG conference 2011, Seattle
Ms Tan Qianhui, masters student, won the second prize in the 2011 AAG Sexuality and Space Student Paper Competition for her paper "Flirtatious Geographies". The paper is based on her Honours Thesis. - Zhang Jiajie, masters student, who submitted a conference paper based on his master thesis on war tourism in Kinmen, Taiwan won the 1st prize (US$400) in the “Recreation, Tourism and Sport Specialty Group” student paper competition at the Associate of American Geographers (AAG) 2009. Jiajie was awarded full scholarship by Durham University, UK for his Ph.D. study which started in September 2009.
Other Awards
Mr Taillardat Pierre Etienne, a PhD student was awarded the prize for best student presentation at the IUCN Mangrove Specialist Group conference in Bremen, Germany, for his oral presentation on mangrove carbon stocks and land use change, 2017.
Ms Elisha Teo, PhD student won the Copernicus Prize for the Brightest Young Star at the 15th International Conference on Luminescence and Electron Spin Dating for her presentation on "Optimising and testing time-resolved OSL of feldspar contaminated quartz grains", 11-15 September 2017. In April 2017, she also won the European Geophysical Union (EGU)'s Communicate Your Science Video Competition. Elisha's PhD is on reconstructing paleoflood histories in mainland South East Asia.
Ms Jessica Clendenning, PhD student has been selected to receive a Musim Mas Sustainability Dissertation Award of S$ 3000. The Musim Mas Award is made through the NUS Business School.
