While every FASS student shares a common skills-based foundation, we also know that it is important to be able to think deeply and analytically because this can make a big difference in the workplace.  As such, each FASS student undertakes a primary major that requires them to delve deeply into a particular discipline.

At the same time, we know that business/ organisational needs can evolve rapidly and organisations need individuals who can adapt to these changing demands.  To that end, the FASS system allows students to take on secondary majors and minors, which promotes the importance of thinking flexibly and adaptively, as well as the ability to transfer knowledge and skills across domains and projects.

At FASS, we recognise that employers are looking for graduates who can deliver results from the outset. This means students have practical experience with the workplace.

Here are some of the ways that our students gain such practical experience and insight.

Internships with External Organisations: FASS students secure internships across a wide range of industries, where they apply their academic learning to real -world challenges. These experiences help them acquire practical and professional skills and practices that will enable them to adapt quickly and make meaningful contributions in new environments.

FASS Mentorship Programme: FASS has a very successful and long-running mentorship programme in which our students are matched with mentors from industries of interest. Mentorship gives students valuable exposure to industry practices, provides personalised guidance on career development, and helps them gain confidence and clarity about their future career paths.

NUS Student Work Scheme: Within the university, we appreciate the talent and competencies that our students bring.  Many FASS students take on part-time but important roles within the university such as research assistantships and student support positions.
