Alumni Sharing Session: Working in Digital Marketing

Dear Students,

Many of you have highlighted to us that you wish to know what digital marketing is. Some of your seniors are now working in this area. Digital marketing refers to the use of digital channels to market products and services in order to reach customers. It involves the use of websites, mobile devices, social media, search engines, and other similar channels. Today many companies often combine traditional and digital marketing techniques in their business strategies.

Indeed, we are very excited and happy to have Miss Valerie Chow, an alumnus, to share with us her experiences working in digital marketing. We strongly encourage you to attend this session as it may be some time before we can get another good speaker, just like Valerie, presenting on this particular topic.

The details are as follows:

Date: October 13, Thursday

Time: 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm

Please register and book your seat at this link: https://nus-sg.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYsfuGtrz0vGtQrFkM2NGcZo3an5BdAEzDQ

Please also highlight the specific areas of digital marketing that you are curious about, so that Valerie can address them during the zoom session.

Valerie will be sharing on the following areas:

  1. Briefly highlight your career journey, till you arrive at your current job.
  2. How did your previous jobs (whether from within the same organization or other organizations) help you to move on to this current job - especially in terms of skillset required for the current job?
  3. What is your job designation? What is your job scope? Which department are you in, and which segment of the market are you serving/ supporting?
  4. What do you do on a normal workday? Explain your job tasks.
  5. Who do you interact with in the organization, and why?
  6. Why and how do you interact with external parties or clients?
  7. What are some challenges you faced so far? How do you overcome these?
  8. What is the career path for a digital marketer? What does one need to do to move to the next level?
  9. What do you think are important qualities and skillset needed to succeed in this job and this industry?
  10. Among the economics modules that you took at NUS, which do you find useful and relevant in helping you secure all the jobs since you graduated?
