Proposed Thesis Title: Dharmic Ties across the East Sea: Sino-Japanese Buddhist Interactions in the 1930s
Advisor: Assistant Professor Jack Chia

I recently graduated from the Department of History at NUS, where I spent four extremely fulfilling years. Hence, I have returned to pursue a Master’s in History and to grow further as a historian. Broadly, I am interested in modern Chinese history, Chinese religion, gender, and historiography. My undergraduate thesis, titled “Journey to the South: Chinese Buddhist Missions to South and Southeast Asia, 1930s–1945”, explored the participation of Chinese Buddhists in diplomacy during the Second Sino-Japanese War.

Currently, I am embarking on an investigation into Sino-Japanese Buddhist interactions in the early twentieth-century. In my free time, I enjoy indulging myself in pop culture. When not working on assignments or my research, you can find me kicking back with a cup of kopi (siew dai) and a Korean drama or Chinese novel.
