Growing up around the world, I was brought up with a healthy interest in the stories and histories of peoples from all across the globe and how they each borrowed upon one another to create new and fascinating ideas. However, it wasn’t until my tertiary studies where these interests coalesced into a direct study of history, of people, movements, and ideas.
My research focus mainly revolves around the concept of Republican theory and its application in the political sphere. I am most interested in seeing how and why Republican concepts are utilized today in modern society, and the divergences that modern interpretations of Republicanism take from traditional understandings of the Republic. I focus on seeing what is maintained and what is changed as the concept passes both through the filter of time, people, and place. As the application of ideology into reality is imperfect, my exploration of the concept often falls into the dissection of narratives and rhetoric, the intended presentation of the outcome regardless of the reality of the application.
Outside of my study of history, I do also enjoy board games, running, and having a pint while shooting the breeze.
