Faculty of the Dept of History pursue a wide thematic and geographic range of research with a chronological focus on the modern and contemporary eras (1500 onwards). The dept’s main research focus is East and Southeast Asia, but includes also Europe and North America. Subdisciplinary research fields include economic history, political and diplomatic history, military history, cultural and intellectual history, and the history of science and technology.
