Dr. Elvin Ong was awarded the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award 2023-2024, funded by the U.S. government. The award allows Singaporean faculty to enhance academic and professional expertise in the United States in collaboration with American academics and/field experts, thereby promoting better understanding between the United States and Singapore. The award will provide Dr. Ong funding to visit the Council on Southeast Asia Studies at Yale University from September to December 2023, where he will be a Fulbright Visiting Fellow.

He is the fifth NUS Political Science Department faculty to be awarded a Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award. Previous award recipients include Dr. Bilveer Singh (1990-1991), Dr. Hussin Mutalib (1991-1992), Dr. Kenneth Paul Tan (2007-2008), and Dr. Reuben Wong (2008-2009).
