CALL FOR PAPERS DEADLINE | 15 OCTOBER 2026, 1PM SINGAPORE TIME (SGT)
The Gender and Sexuality Research Cluster (GSRC) at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore invites applications from all researchers for a Research Workshop on Gender, Youth, and Media in Asia. Individual papers and co-authored papers are welcome. Each person may only submit one abstract – whether single-authored or co-authored.
Participants will take part in a two-day conference and 1-day workshop, from 20 to 22 February 2027.
The proposed workshop will focus on interdisciplinary approaches to gender and sexuality research, and invites papers from scholars whose work connects to disciplines such as geography, linguistics, anthropology, communications, and media studies. In particular, the workshop will highlight research within three key streams (Media and Discourse, Youth and Society, and Borders and Boundaries), with a particular focus on Asia, and explore how these streams might intersect.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Please refer to the Application Form, which can be downloaded below. A paper title, 350-word abstract and a short biography (up to 150 words) is required.
The Application Form is to be completed and submitted by email to gsrc@nus.edu.sg. The title should consist of 5 to 7 keywords, with at least one of it indicating the field of study, e.g. Cultural Studies, Communication, Geography, Linguistics, Japanese Studies, etc. Only original and previously unpublished submissions will be accepted.
Successful applicants will be notified by 13 November 2026.
REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS
Accepted applicants are expected to submit their presentation slides by 31 January 2027, and present their work at the Research Workshop on Gender, Youth, and Media in Asia which is held in-person at the National University of Singapore from 20 to 22 February 2027.

NOTE ON TRAVEL FUNDING
Due to budget constraints, we are unable to provide any funding for travel. Accepted applicants should be prepared to make their own travel arrangements to Singapore. We are happy to provide selected meals for all participants at the meeting site during the conference.
