INTERNSHIPS FOR FASS STUDENTS
The world of work is changing fast. As AI reshapes industries and redefines what employers look for in early-career candidates, the ability to demonstrate real, applied experience has never mattered more. Internships remain one of the most direct ways to build that track record — and in today's hiring landscape, they carry even greater weight.
It's one thing to graduate with a strong academic foundation and a range of skills. It's another to have shown, in a professional setting, how you apply them. An internship gives you exactly that opportunity: structured, supervised work experience where your performance and work ethic can be observed firsthand. For employers, internships are a meaningful way to identify and assess talent. For students, they offer a window into a potential career path and the chance to grow a professional network before graduation.
That said, not every role qualifies. To be recognised as an internship, a position must emphasise on-the-job training, set clear and intentional learning goals, and be closely supervised throughout. Internships may be paid or unpaid — refer to the Internship Guidelines for further details.
At FASS, internships are an integral part of your academic journey, because we know career readiness goes beyond the classroom. You can earn academic units for your internship through the FASS Internship Programme (FASSIP), your department's Academic Internship Programme, or one of the programmes managed by the Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG).

Faculty Managed Internship Programme
FASS Internship Programme (FASSIP). This programme is for internships that are not closely tied to the disciplinary training offered by individual departments.
Department Managed Academic Internship Programmes
These programmes are for internships that are closely related to the disciplinary training offered by individual departments. In some cases, they are compulsory for majors of the discipline; in others, they are elective. Please refer to the respective department websites for more details.
XX3550 Department Internship (4 Units) (the “XX” stands for the major code): These courses are used by many departments to recognise internships that are relevant to their disciplines. That is, the internships are either part of the major training offered by the department, or the positions in question require applicants to have a specific disciplinary background. Students should inquire at the department offices for more information. Employers may also approach departments directly to offer such internships.
CNM Internship Programme: The CNM Internship Programme (CIP) is a capstone of the Department of Communications and New Media. All students majoring in CNM will undertake a period of industry placement to orientate themselves to their future careers, with the support and guidance of the CNM CIP Team.
SW3103A and SW3104 Field Practice: These courses relate to the fieldwork that is integral to social work education. The programme seeks to provide students with the opportunity to integrate theories with practice, through the guidance of a qualified field supervisor. The courses are compulsory for student majoring in Social Work.
