Double Degree Programmes

For students who would like to take their education up a notch, FASS offers Double Degree Programmes (DDPs) designed in collaboration with other Faculties within NUS. Students typically take five years to graduate with Double Honours. You may apply for the following structured DDPs at the point of admission, or opt for a Student-Designed DDP (subject to approval) later in your candidature. Students who are interested to enrol in one of the following structured DDPs that have been developed, may send in an application during the stipulated application period every semester.

Double Degree in Communications & New Media and Business (Double & Single Hons)

The DDP is jointly offered by FASS and the NUS Business School. Communications and New Media and Business are intimately related subjects. In today's global environment, the line separating communications and media studies and business is blurring. Often, graduates from communications and media programs are expected to perform tasks that require business training, while business graduates are expected to know how to effectively communicate with a company's public, manage crises or chart technology trends. Thus, the double degree programme between the Business School and CNM allows students to acquire a deep understanding of two very complex areas that are becoming increasingly intertwined.

The double degree programme (DDP) offers two degree choices for students:

BBA(Hons)/BSocSci(Hons) – a double honours degree programme
BSocSci(Hons)/BBA – a single honours double degree programme (For FASS home students only)

Double Degree in Economics and Business (Double & Single Hons)

The Double Degree programme in Economics and Business integrates and synergise the strengths of the two disciplines in Economics and Business, which are inextricably interwoven and complementary. Business is multi-disciplinary and imparts the necessary skill set for meeting the challenges of the business world, while Economics, being a science of choice, imparts the skill sets for problem-solving.

The programme is offered jointly by FASS and the School of Business and offers students two degree choices:

BBA(Hons)/BSocSci(Hons), a double honours degree programme
BSocSci(Hons)/BBA, a single honours degree programme

Double (Honours) Degree in Economics and Engineering

Offered by FASS and the Faculty of Engineering, the DDP in Engineering and Economics is a specialised degree programme that combines two disciplines that have significant synergies. The programme is designed to develop the core engineering skills of students so that they will fulfill the requisite professional requirements of their chosen engineering fields. At the same time, the programme will equip students with vital knowledge in economics, which will help them succeed in the global marketplace.

The double degree programme (DDP) offers two degree choices for students:

BEng(Hons) / BSocSci(Hons) – a double honours degree programme
BEng(Hons) / BA - a single honours double degree programme

Double (Honours) Degree in Economics and Law

The Double Honours Degree in Economics and Law is a programme offered jointly by FASS and the Faculty of Law, leading to the degrees of BSocSci (Hons) and LLB (Hons). Economics and Law are, in some areas, complementary disciplines. Singapore is a regional centre for legal services, and a lot of our international legal work involves commercial, corporate and financial law. This means there is – and will continue to be - a demand for lawyers with a strong background in Economics, as well as for economists trained in law.

Double (Honours) Degree in Economics and Business Analytics

Business analytics studies the application of data analysis to improve business performance. Economics focuses on the behaviour and interactions of different types of economic agents (consumers, workers, firms, government, etc.), and how economies work. They are complementary disciplines that build on each other, but with different focuses (namely, a business focus vs. a focus on the whole society).

Combining the tools and applications of both will give students a broader ability to add value in business settings, both with an understanding of the different aspects of the economy that may be relevant to the business as well as the in-depth business skills covered in business analytics. Likewise, those involved in economic analysis, economic consulting and economic policy will have a better appreciation of business decision making in practice.

BSc(Hons)/BSocSci(Hons)- a double honours degree programme (Internship option)
BSc(Hons)/BSocSci(Hons)- a double honours degree programme (Thesis option)

Double (Honours) Degree in Economics and Information Systems

Information Systems focuses on designing, implementing and managing Information Technology (IT) and application to improve business performance. Economics focuses on the behaviour and interactions of different types of economic agents (consumers, workers, firms, government, etc.), and how economies work. They are complementary disciplines that build on each other, but with different foci (namely, a technology focus vs. a focus on the whole society).

The DDP in Information Systems and Economics aims to produce students who can design, interpret, analyse, and implement economic models in depth.

The double degree programme (DDP) offers three degree choices for students:

BComp(Hons)/BSocSci(Hons)- a double honours degree programme (Internship option)
BComp(Hons)/BSocSci(Hons)- a double honours double degree programme (Thesis option)

Student-Designed DDPs

Above structured DDPs not to your liking? Design your own DDP! For example, your seniors have paired Sociology with Business Administration (NUS Business School), or Psychology with Life Sciences (Faculty of Science).

Students interested to pursue their own Double Degree combinations must have obtained a minimum CAP of 4.00 depending on their admission year after completing between 60 to 80 MCs (excluding MCs earned from student exchange programmes or advanced placement credits). Written approval to embark on the DDP must be obtained from the relevant Faculties/Schools. Students are advised to seek proper advice from their academic counsellors in planning their modules as early as possible in their candidature.

Concurrent Degree Programmes

A Concurrent Degree Programme (CDP) allows students to pursue a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree concurrently. The programme structure allows some of the requirements for the Bachelor’s degree to be counted towards the Master’s degree so that students may graduate in 4.5 to 5 years with both degrees, instead of 5.5 to 6 years if pursued separately.

Enjoy a seamless transition to the Master's Programme in Psychology, and graduate with a B.Soc.Sci. (Hons.) and M.Soc.Sci. in five years!

CDP Graduates

Graduates from this programme will possess strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, as well as domain expertise in their chosen area of research.

CDP with FASS and LKYSPP

Graduate with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) (for Economics, Political Science, Sociology or Social Work majors) OR a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) and a Master's in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy

CDP Graduates

The programme aims to develop versatile graduands able to tackle big public policy issues in a complex global context.

CDP Application

Students will be invited to apply for the FASS-LKYSPP (MPP) CDP in their second year of study. Details will be available on the student intranet.

Joint Degree Programmes

Students can take on Joint Degree Programmes (JDPs), which FASS offers in partnership with other leading external universities from around the world. These programmes represent a well-thought out pedagogical basis and curriculum to take advantage of the complementary academic strengths of partner universities and those of NUS to the advantage of students.

Joint Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) Degree in Actuarial Studies and Economics
with Australian National University

The Joint Degree programme in Actuarial Studies and Economics is offered by the School of Finance and Applied Statistics, Faculty of Economics and Commerce, Australian National University (ANU) and the Department of Economics, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, NUS, leading to the degree of ANU / NUS Bachelor of Social Sciences with Joint Honours in Actuarial Studies and Economics. The programme contains the core of the Economics Honours curriculum as well as the actuarial studies that prepares students for the actuarial career.
