Safety and Health Policy

The Department of Geography is committed to developing and promoting a safe and healthy environment for all students, staff, and visitors to the Department.

The Department is committed to:

  • Comply with all applicable safety and health laws and regulations, NUS policies and directives, and standards.
  • Prevent the occurrence of injury and health problems through proactive hazard identification and risk assessment, and implementation of risk control measures and training needs.
  • Provide adequate resources to implement the Safety and Health Management System and programs. This will provide a broad framework for the department’s activities including our specialized activities in laboratories and fieldwork. The Safety and Health Management System will be reviewed periodically for continual improvement and to ensure its relevance.
  • Establish an easy and direct way to communicate the Safety and Health Management System and programs to all stakeholders in the Department to create awareness of the Department’s commitment and everyone’s responsibility to build a safer and healthier work environment.
  • Build a positive safety and health culture by encouraging a safety-first approach, which is achieved by installing a strong sense of personal responsibility for one’s safety and health. Safety is everyone’s responsibility!
  • All stakeholders in the Department have the right to a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. We are committed to created and fostering a safe and inclusive community, free from harassment and bullying.
