The inaugural cohort of the College of Humanities and Sciences share their expectations of university, ambitions, as well as thoughts on HSH1000 “The Human Condition”, an interdisciplinary module that exposes students on topics related to the ethos of being human under the College’s Common Curriculum.

Third-year student Cassandra Yip (Major in NUS Environmental Studies, Minors in Global Studies and Economics) is rolling out ground-up initiatives to address environmental issues. She is the founder of Earth School Singapore (ESS), Singapore’s first non-profit school for environmental education and the co-founder of the NUS Chapter of Student Energy, consisting of a network of youth organisations advocating for sustainable energy.

Professor Lu Xixi and Dr Dongfeng Li from the Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences led an international team of researchers to conduct a new analysis of observations of headwater rivers in the area. The study revealed that fluvial sediment loads have been increasing substantially, even much faster than river water discharge. This is due to the recent warmer and wetter climate, and has important implications for water quality, hydropower development and maintenance, and for the riverine carbon cycle.

NUS has retained its position as the 24th most prestigious university worldwide, in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) global reputation ranking.
