About the Course

This course is one of four compulsory courses leading to a Professional Certificate in Correctional Management.

With shifting demographics and social issues becoming more complex and varied, there is an emerging trend requiring rehabilitation officers to provide a more integrated service delivery. The programme will equip participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge of case formulation and reflective practice, and work on the participants' competencies in client and intervention understanding, reflective practice and problem-solving skills.

Course Objectives

  • Understanding clients in context, and gaining a broader view of correction work.
  • Helping clients improve adherence to supervision and reducing recidivism through psychologically informed treatment planning.
  • Increasing the sense of competency to intervene, and understanding the rationale behind upper management's introduction of various interventions.
  • Understanding own's ability and limitations by encouraging reflective practice.
  • Facilitating problem-solving skills and increases confidence.
  • Becoming aware of related emotions triggered by work and learning how to process and manage these emotions effectively.
  • Improving empathy for clients and responsiveness to clients' needs.
  • Addressing process issues that staff may encounter with their clients.
