Hwan Cui is a registered psychologist in Singapore. She is a principal psychologist at the Department of Child Development, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and an adjunct assistant professor with the Department of Psychology, National University of Singapore (NUS). She has more than 15 years of experience working with children with developmental, emotional or behaviour difficulties and their parents/caregivers.

Hwan Cui provides assessments to diagnose autism, and other neurodevelopmental conditions such as dyslexia, intellectual disability and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. She uses cognitive behaviour therapy approaches to work with children on their emotional difficulties. She is trained to guide parents in the use of positive behaviour management strategies to reduce difficult behaviours in children, and to use supportive parenting strategies to treat children’s anxiety problems. She provides consultation for parents to teach and support their children with special educational needs, including making choices for schooling and to ease their children’s transition to primary schooling.

Hwan Cui has a Ph.D. in psychological research from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, and investigated visual perception in children with autism for her doctoral thesis. She obtained her professional training as a clinical psychologist through the Master of Psychology (Clinical) course at NUS.

Hwan Cui has published research relating to autism and screening for developmental problems in young children. She was the Principal Investigator of the Timely Identification of Developmental and Behaviour problems in Toddlers (TIDBIT) project, which aims to evaluate the usefulness of the Health Booklet checklists and other overseas-developed developmental screening tools for detecting developmental problems in toddlers. She is conducting research to better understand the mental well-being of parents and caregivers of children with developmental needs.

Hwan Cui teaches an honours year psychology undergraduate course on autism at NUS.
