Tok, Aloysius

Teaching Assistant
M.Soc.Sci. (NUS), B.Soc.Sci. (Hons.) (NUS)
My recent interests revolve around the issue of trust in AI - its operationalisation, influencing factors, and downstream consequences on perceptions thereof (of moral agency, utility, etc.). Before my teaching role, I spent two years on a smart cities grant after graduation investigating perceptions of moral agency in various AI systems. For example, when and why people attribute moral responsibility, blame, or moral standing to these agents and the juxtaposition of these phenomena against human benchmarks. My previous work leaned heavily on novel operationalisations of abstract philosophical concepts. Experimental work remains a keen interest of mine and I endeavour to focus my upcoming PhD on developing behavioural operationalisations to the highly elusive phenomenon of "trust", contextualised around our interactions with and perceptions of AI and near-future technologies.
