While at Partner University
Making sure that someone knows you are in that country
Please contact and register your personal particulars at the Diplomatic Mission of your country upon arrival at the country of your partner university (e.g. a Singapore national should contact the Singapore's Embassy/High Commission, which is usually in the capital city. They may also register on-line at http://www.mfa.gov.sg).
In the event of any national emergency, you can be contacted and evacuated if necessary.
How will we get a hold of you?
CourseReg - previously known as ModReg
There may be important announcements from the Faculty through your NUS e-mail account such as administrative process in preparation for CourseReg for the returning semester.
Unfortunately if you miss some of these email announcements and, say, fail to declare your courses and lose out on critical courses that you need for your remaining semesters to NUS, it can adversely affect the fulfillment of your graduation requirements.
So we ask that you please check your account regularly and ensure that the mailbox storage is not exceeded.
Are there any contacts I should take note of?
It is wise to make your own list of emergency contacts so that you are able to request and receive proper and timely aid if needed. Please ensure that you have at least the number of the Partner University’s helpline and the number for the local authorities. Given their proximity and knowledge of the country, they should be your first point of contact.
Students are also encouraged to download the International SOS app and share your location daily via the check-in function. In times of crisis, International SOS would be able to locate you or you can reach out to them for help.
Now that I am here at the partner university; my study plan has to change. What should I do?
Course Mapping - previously known as Module Mapping
If you are overseas and realised that the course that you had mapped is not offered and you would like to read another course, or if there is another course (originally not mapped) that you would like to read, you may seek approval from the relevant department(s) via the same course mapping system.
Please refer to FAQ28 for information on course mapping procedure.
My study plan, enrollment and course mapping is finally confirmed. What should I do next?
Unit Ratio - previously known as MC Ratio
Unit Transfer - previously known as Credit Transfer
In order to facilitate the transition back to NUS after your SEP semester, please select the course you are reading and submit them under the unit transfer request tab of EduRec - Global Education, Course Mapping Worksheet.
The SEP office, will adjust the unit per course based on the Unit Ratio.
This action will trigger the pseudo-promotion process. Based on the cumulative units declared to have been completed, students may be pseudo promoted to the next level of seniority for the purpose of CourseReg only.
Do note that the pseudo-promotion process is a transient measure to adjust the seniority of students who have completed their SEP (but pending official unit transfer) temporarily. Students are still required to complete the official Unit Transfer process expeditiously to ensure correct representation of their degree requirement fulfilment.
False declaration(s) may subject a student to disciplinary actions.
Please refer to the step-by-step guide (PDF / video) to complete the pseudo promotion declaration process.
Is there anything else I should remember?
You will definitely want a transcript to show that you were in fact on SEP. Hence, before completing your exchange semester, please apply for your transcript (from the Partner University) before returning home to Singapore.
Please note the e-mail address of the person to contact regarding transcript matters. You should also ask the approximate date when your transcript will be ready and sent to you or the Registrar's Office at NUS. This will allow you to enquire at the partner university if you do not receive your transcript by that date.
You may also need the transcript to complete your Unit Transfer to your student record.
Most importantly, bring back wonderful memories!
