Research Title: A Spatial-Temporal Examination of the Anthropogenic and Ecological Determinants Influencing Ecosystem Connectivity in Singapore
Research Group: Tropical Environmental Change (TEC)
Thesis Advisor: Assoc Prof Wang Yi-Chen
With a background in BA of Environmental Studies and MSc in Applied GIS, I have always been fascinated by the multidisciplinary potential of environmental research. Over my academic and research careers, I have had many opportunities to explore the human-environment relationship and how social-ecological systems co-produce ecosystem services. This subsequently led me to have a greater commitment towards my research goal of contributing to the knowledge progression in sustainable urban ecosystem management.
Currently, my research aims to advance existing knowledge on forest landscape connectivity and understand how the underlying anthropogenic and stochastic processes within the ecosystem shapes the restoration potential of a degraded forest. Despite the impacted status, Singapore’s tropical rainforests are a refuge and habitat to rich local biodiversity. Conservation and restoration efforts are hence imperative to maintaining a robust natural landscape in our highly urbanised landscape. With a systematic understanding of Singapore’s forest dynamic, my research therefore aim to advance the forest restoration efforts in Singapore and Southeast Asia, where tropical rainforests face pressing threats of further degradation.
