Maximum Number of Units Transfer for SEP

Students in the Student Exchange Programme are granted Unit transfer but not grades transfer for satisfactorily completed courses mapped against equivalent courses at NUS. The rules below will operate to determine the maximum possible number of Units that you can use to fulfil your graduation requirement.

Rules (Applicable to 2014 cohort and after)

  • Please refer to the Modular Paper for your Cohort (Student Exchange Programmes, NUS Overseas College Programme and other Overseas Education Programmes) for the rules and policies regarding the required Units to be read in NUS which impacts the number of Units you can earn from overseas programmes.  https://fass.nus.edu.sg/current-students/academic-matters/modular-system/
  • Residency Requirement applies to major/s, minor/s and overall degree.
  • Students will also need to take into consideration information on Mapping Restriction.

Rules (Applicable to 2013 cohort and before)

  • At least 60% of the major must be graded and factored into the GPA.
  • Up to a maximum of 8 Units may be read on SEP to fulfilled minor requirements. (Please note that courses done on exchange with Pass/Fail option invoked can be used for the fulfillment of minor requirements)
  • A residency requirement of at least 80 Units read at NUS OR 50% of the required Units for degree programme (higher of the two, based on graded courses factored into the GPA).
  • If the maximum Units to be excluded from GPA has been exceeded, the student will have to make up by reading graded Units required for graduation.

Advanced placement credits and exemptions (APC) are usually granted to students for courses taken and passed prior to admission to NUS, for courses completed at another tertiary institution recognised by the University, or based on performance in placement tests set by the relevant Faculty/School.

Please refer to the following URL and click on the respective Modular Paper for the most updated information with regard to individual cohort.
