The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), National University of Singapore, will introduce the Dean’s PhD Fellowship starting August 2015.

This new and prestigious Fellowship will provide the best incoming FASS PhD candidates with an additional year of funding. Up to three Fellowships of S$45,000 each will be awarded to the most promising candidates for the August intake. The Fellowship is to defray living expenses and fees in the final year of the recipient’s studies, after the NUS scholarship expires.

The Fellowship will allow recipients to focus on the thesis during the final crucial stage of writing, allowing them to produce a high quality thesis within the remaining period of the candidature.

Fellowship recipients are expected to complete their PhD candidature within five years. As such, the thesis is to be submitted no later than 12 months from the start of the Fellowship.

Candidates who submit their thesis before the end of the 12 months will be able to stay on for the remainder of the period to work on converting the thesis for publication. In this instance, they will be named a “Dean’s Graduate Writing Fellow”. There will be no additional benefits attached to this Fellowship.

Only full-time FASS PhD students who have already been offered an NUS scholarship and admission to a PhD programme will be eligible. The Fellowship is by departmental nomination only. Recipients will be expected to maintain a high academic standard throughout their candidature in order to continue on the Fellowship.

The Dean’s PhD Fellowship will be awarded together with an NUS scholarship at the point of admission.
