What does the personal statement entail?
Please let us know the reasons you wish to apply for this JDP and how it would benefit you in the future.
What does the academic referee means?
This is someone that has the ability to comment on your academic capabilities, attitudes and if you will be a good candidate for this JDP. He or she can be a faculty member or a tutor who has taught you at NUS. As this is an academic referee who can offer his references for your studies at NUS, please do not offer referees from your work place or previous schools.
What will the academic referee have to do?
Please request your referee to write you, a sealed letter of recommendation. You can submit the sealed envelop with your other applicaiton materials the Department coordinator. Alternatively, your academic referee can write directly to the Department coordinator instead.
When does application open?
Application will open sometime late December and will end in mid to late January. You will receive an email announcement to let you know that application has opened.
Will I be able to pursue a double degree/major in this JDP?
Due to the complex nature of the JDP curriculum, it is not possible to incorporate the degree structure of the double degree or double major into the JDP. Therefore you will not be able to do a double degree or a double major within this JDP. Students can however, complete a minor. Do note that you most likely need to overload or read modules in special semseters should you want to complete a minor.
I am a USP/UTCP student. How will I be able to fit my USP/UTCP requirements into ths JDP?
The JDP curriculum takes priority. Students may have to overload or read modules in special semesters if they want to fulfill both JDP requirements and USP/UTCP requirements. We are unable to modify the JDP requirements in any way to accommodate the USP/UTCP requirements.
The JDP curriculum is not geared towards the completion of your USP requirements. It will be up to USP to decide if the courses that you complete under the JDP can be used towards the fulfillment of your USP requirements.
If I do not intend to pursue a degree in any of the 6 majors, will I still be able to participate in this JDP?
As the JDP is currently only offered in the 6 majors, it is therefore necessary that you intend to pursue a degree in that major if you wish to apply for the JDP.
If my CAP is less than 4.0, will I still be able to apply for the JDP?
Due to the extreme competitiveness of entry into this programme, we regret that students with a CAP of less than 4.0 will not be eligible to apply. Students are also expected to maintian a CAP of at least 4.0 throughout their candidature.
I was late in my submission to the Department. Will I still be considered for the programme?
We have given students ample time for the application period and we have a briefing session for students and parents during the period of application. Therefore we feel that it is sufficient time and information for students to make an informed decision on their application and we will strictly not entertain late applications.
I do not intend to pursue Honours. Will I still be able to participate in this JDP?
As the JDP curriculum requires compulsory Honours, therefore if you do not intend to pursue Honours, then this programme will not be suitable for you.
Medical Coverage
NUS students will be covered by the NUS Travel Insurance.
UNC requires that all international students to purchase and maintain health insurance due to the high cost of health care in the U.S.
If you would like to opt out of UNC Insurance, UNC will have to review the insurance policy you plan on using, so as to ensure that you are sufficiently covered.
Please refer to the UNC Study Abroad Medical Coverage site for the latest details.
