After a 3-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Field Studies in Geography: Southeast Asia (SEA) has finally made a comeback over the summer break of 2023.
The history of Singapore and Malaya were brought to the fore at NUS Sheares Hall on 13 August in a lecture by historian Dr Gary Lit who spoke passionately on the Japanese occupation of Singapore during World War II (WWII) from 1942 to 1945, as well as a period in 1948 when a state of emergency was declared in Singapore due to a spate of violence between Malayan Communists and British-owned entities.
Themed “Unravelling the Unknown” to signify the spirit of learning through adventure in the limitless possibilities of the post-pandemic world, NUS students demonstrated the true spirit of giving, coming together as one to raise close to S$170,000 for 20 beneficiaries from Community Chest through generous donations from members of the public and corporate partners.
