Faculty Research Centres & Initiatives at FASS

The Faculty Research Centres (FRCs) came into being at FASS in AY 2014/15.

The Centre for Family and Population Research (CFPR) held its official launch on April 28th 2015.
CFPR is directed by Associate Professor Bussarawan (Puk) Teerawichitchainan and Associate Professor Vincent Chua from the NUS Department of Sociology & Anthropology.

The Social Service Research Centre (SSR) formally launched on April 24th, 2015.
SSR is directed by NUS Department of Psychology Associate Professor Eddie Tong and NUS Department of Social Work Associate Professor Irene Ng.

Research Clusters

The NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) set up multidisciplinary Research Clusters in 2006. Since then the cluster group continues to foster academic excellence by promoting high-impact research in innovative areas of relevance to Singapore and the Asian region. The Research Clusters provide a platform for faculty members with intersecting interests to exchange ideas and develop research initiatives across departmental lines. Cluster output ranges from small seminars to international conferences; from research grant funding to research publications; all while encouraging the graduate student community through student-organized reading groups and workshops. The FASS Research Division is also home to the Singapore Research Nexus.

Singapore Research Nexus

The Singapore Research Nexus (SRN), launched in 2011, serves as a showcase for past research, a resource for current research and a platform for future research on Singapore. It provides a useful tool for academics, policy makers, and those with a general interest in how research has helped shape the story of Singapore.

Department Research Centres

The Singapore Centre for Applied and Policy Economics (SCAPE) is based in the Department of Economics at the National University of Singapore. Building on the Department’s strengths in applied economics, the centre aims to produce rigorous and timely research relevant to public policy in Singapore and Asia.

The Cultural Research Centre, based in the Department of Communications and New Media, provides a sustained research environment for related projects through its program of research development, grants, and activities. This coherent research agenda allows faculty a space to incubate and mature joint research projects, and increase research visibility.

The Wan Boo Sow Research Centre for Chinese Culture was set up in 2015 under the Department of Chinese Studies. Its mission is to raise research efforts and output in Chinese culture to a higher level, for NUS to establish itself as a leading institution in the field in Asia and beyond.
