The Embassy of France in Singapore, together with the French Alumni association, organise a series of lectures (“France Alumni Singapore Lecture Series”) given by imminent personalities in Singapore who studied in France, to put the spotlight on how an overseas education, notably in France, influenced their chosen career path.

Each lecture is anchored by a prominent alumni member, followed by a Q&A session.

The speaker for August 2022, Dr. Daniel Chan, will give a talk entitled "Learning...the French Way".

Brief Bio: Dr Daniel Chan
Dr Daniel Chan received his teacher training at the National Institute of Education, and his previous teaching stints as a French language teacher include those at the MOE Language Centre, St Francis Methodist Secondary and Alliance Française de Singapour.

Whilst at the MOELC, he was the coordinator and tutor of the A-level Language Elective Programme (LEP) for French and he initiated the LEP Immersion Programme in Paris and Dijon with the Ecole Suisse Internationale.

He also held the position of Language Services Coordinator during the 1st Youth Olympic Games (2010), under the STARS (Short-Term Assignment Regular Staff) scheme, where he helped to manage Youth Interpreters for non-English speaking youth athletes.

He has himself received accreditation by the French Embassy in Singapore as a certified translator-interpreter . His PhD in Linguistics was awarded by the Université de Paris Diderot (Paris 7) in France, under the supervision of Professor Marie-Claude Paris. Prior to that, he completed his DEA (Master's Degree) in Linguistics at Université de Paris Diderot (Paris 7) under a French Government scholarship, and his Maîtrise (Bachelor's with Honours Degree) at Université de Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris 3) under a Public Service Commission scholarship.
