"MY FASS FAMILY" HOST PROGRAMME

This is a friendship programme that engages our very own FASS alumni hosts to assist our incoming FASS international students to adapt to our NUS and Singaporean culture better.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences recognizes that international students coming to Singapore for the first time may need assistance in adjusting to living in Singapore. Coming to live in any foreign country can be both an exciting and difficult experience. Exciting because it is exploration into unchartered waters, difficult because one is far from all that is familiar and dear - family, friends and familiar places.

Complementing the Host Family programme at our NUS Office of Student Affairs, the "My FASS Family" Host Programme is special in having our very own FASS alum be a special friend to ease you into life in Singapore. Your FASS friend/mentor is happy to share her/his past experience of being an FASS student and about life after graduation, and you can also share your own reflections and culture with your host family.

This is not a homestay programme, but one in which you can meet your host and her/his family on a regular basis. It is a "Befrienders" programme in which friendships can be formed among people from different cultures who get a sense of what local life is like in Singapore.

You and your friend/host may meet to enjoy a meal, or go on an excursion to places of interest. Or perhaps, you might get to watch a cultural performance or enjoy a local festival with new-found Singaporean friends. There are many wholesome bonding activities that you and your host can share!
