Appended is a glossary of commonly used terms that would help you find the course that best suits your needs.

NUS Lifelong Learning (L3) for Alumni Specifically created for NUS alumni, the spirit of the NUS Lifelong Learning (L3) for Alumni programme emphasises that completing a three or four-year university degree no longer marked the end of studying for NUS alumni, as continuous training and upgrading of skills become increasingly important in the global rapidly evolving economy. The University will treat every student enrolment as lasting for up to twenty years from the year of admission. Therefore, NUS alumni admitted from AY1999/2000 onwards are automatically eligible for a one-time Virtual Voucher which offsets the cost of one L³ modular course. (The Virtual Voucher cannot be used to redeem short courses.)
NUS Lifelong Learning (L3) Under this initiative, we have short courses and modular courses developed specifically to suit the needs of working professionals and members of the public, including NUS alumni. For some of these courses, SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) subsidies are applicable. Participants can claim SSG subsidies to offset the cost of the course, depending on individual eligibility. Please utilise the filter ‘Funding Type’ in the NUS Lifelong Learning (L3) Catalogue to find the course most suitable for you.
Short courses Short courses are developed specifically to cater to the needs of adult learners seeking to upskill and reskill themselves. The course duration is typically 2-3 days, and may be conducted after office hours, depending on the specific course.
Modular courses Modular courses refer to the credit-bearing undergraduate level or graduate level courses, which may be stackable to credit-bearing programmes. The duration of the modular course spans one academic semester.
Credit-bearing Refers to graded modular courses with assigned grade points. Under the modular system, workloads are expressed in terms of Units, and academic performance is measured by grade points on a 5-point scale (Grade Point Average, GPA). Credit-bearing modular courses potentially can be counted towards the requirements of academic programmes such as a Specialist Certificate, Graduate Certificate, Bachelor’s degree, or Master’s degree, subject to the host Department’s approval.

Note: all short courses are non-credit-bearing.

Professional Certificate Certain short courses can be stacked towards a Professional Certificate. In other words, learners who complete a specified list of short courses (typically 3 or 4 courses) will receive a Professional Certificate indicating their proficiency in that area of study.
Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) An APC comprises of several Professional Certificates stacked together. On completion of a defined set of Professional Certificates, the participant receives the relevant APC. An APC is the highest form of certification for Professional Certificate programmes.
Specialist Certificate Learners who complete a set of predetermined credit-bearing undergraduate level modular courses will receive a Specialist Certificate.
Graduate Certificate Learners who complete a set of predetermined credit-bearing graduate level modular courses will receive a Graduate Certificate.
Training provider Refers to the department, school, faculty or research centre in NUS hosting the course.
