In 1999, inspired by a tragic domestic violence case, she launched the Centre for Promoting Alternatives to Violence (PAVE) as a pilot within Ang Mo Kio FSC with two other social workers. PAVE became Singapore’s first one-stop specialist centre for family violence, offering counselling, legal aid, public education and protective orders. It was established as an independent NGO in 2002, and Dr Nair has served as its Executive Director since returning in 2012. PAVE now manages approximately 2,000 cases annually.

Beyond direct service work, Dr Nair has made significant contributions to academia and public policy.  She served as an Assistant Professor at the NUS Department of Social Work, mentoring students and shaping future social workers through research and teaching. Her work has also extended to service to the nation; she was a member of the Public Service Commission, NUS Board of Trustees and an Alternate Member of the Council of Presidential Advisers. She has also served on the boards of the Housing Development Board (HDB), SINDA, and the Singapore Youth Award panel.
