FASS STARS
NUS Arts and Social Sciences seeks to acknowledge the achievements and efforts of stellar members of its community, and recognises them as role models to inspire their fellow alumni, faculty and staff. Over the years, the Faculty has conferred the following awards to its most impactful community members:
THE FASS DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD
The Distinguished Arts and Social Sciences Alumni Award was established in 2015 to recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to the Nation, Community, University, and/or Faculty, and/or dedicated themselves to the betterment and promotion of the arts and social sciences.
It is our honour to acknowledge and extend our appreciation to the many men and women in our alumni family who have served and contributed brilliantly in various capacities, towards Singapore’s nation-building and the growth of the University and Faculty.
THE ALUMNI AWARD TROPHY
The Alumni Award takes the form of a rising star, a symbol of the outstanding accomplishments achieved by our alumni recipients. The star also represents the inspiration these individuals bring to us through their brilliant contributions in various capacities, towards Singapore’s nation-building and the growth of the University and Faculty.
FACULTY TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD
The Faculty Teaching Excellence Award (FTEA) is awarded to faculty members who have displayed a high level of commitment to their teaching. Each year, a select few colleagues are recognised for their teaching based on peer reviews, student feedback and exposition of their teaching philosophy.
FASS SERVICE AWARD
The FASS Service Award (FSA) is an annual Faculty award given out to administrative staff members for their excellent service delivery at work. The award aims to inspire our staff members to scale new heights in terms of providing excellent quality service to our internal and external stakeholders, including our students, NUS and FASS colleagues, members of the public. In recognising these colleagues, FASS hopes to encourage other administrative staff members to emulate their best practices and exemplary service in their work.
The award has two categories, namely ‘Outstanding Service Award’ and ‘Service Award’.
FASS INSPIRING MENTOR AWARD (FIMA)
Mentorship is a crucial factor in retaining and nurturing quality faculty and administrative staff, and in building up a strong and cohesive institutional culture. The role that such inspiring mentors play in this is greatly appreciated. FiMA winners do not simply do the things which might be considered “in the course of duty,” but go above and beyond that, and really sacrifice their own time and energy for the sake of their mentees.
FASS OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT AWARD
The FASS Outreach and Engagement Award programme acknowledges the service efforts and contributions of faculty members who have been instrumental in promoting the visibility and presence of FASS Departments and Programmes among prospective students, parents, schools, alumni and the broader public.
