MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Dear alumni, colleagues and friends of FASS,

As we celebrate Singapore’s 50th Birthday alongside the University’s 110th Anniversary, it is fitting that we honour the achievements and contributions of our alumni and colleagues tonight.

A respectable 85 years old, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is home to a long line of alumni from different fields, people who have contributed to society in myriad ways, in public service or the corporate world, and through volunteerism. Many of our early alumni were pioneering figures in the development of Singapore, without whom, the young nation would not be what it is today. Tonight, we launch the inaugural FASS Distinguished Alumni Awards to recognise those who have shown excellence in various fields locally and internationally, and in appreciation of their contributions to the Nation, the University, the Faculty and the Community.

Alongside the Alumni Awards, we also celebrate the remarkable achievements of our faculty and staff in the areas of research, teaching and service, and at the same time, honour those who have dedicated years in long service in FASS. We applaud the multi-faceted talent in our midst, and recognise the initiative and dedication that these individuals have shown in going the distance.

Finally, by coinciding the STARS Awards with our annual Lunar New Year Lohei celebrations, we hope that not only will the STARS shine brightly, the festive spirit of peace and happiness will overflow this evening.
